Hillside Weekly News

International Walk/Bike to School Day was a success! Students, parents and caregivers took advantage of the good weather to walk or bike to Hillside on Wednesday morning. After arriving at school, the children put their dance skills to work for a Zumba class led by our fabulous dance teacher Mrs. Smeriglio. Thanks to everyone who participated! A special shout out goes to the Montclair Police Department, Mrs. Smeriglio, Mrs. Lever, Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Wills, Ms. Mailman, Mrs. Murphy, Mr. Martire, Mrs. Bermeo, Ms. Gomez, Mrs. Mazur, Mrs. Boyle, Mr. Adamo, and Dr. Anglin and parent volunteers Kimya Nilsen, Barbie Casasus, Jen Herman, Tessa Vining and Earl Beecham.

Here’s what you need to know for the upcoming week.

"Pair Up" with Miss Brantner & Mrs. Eckardt's 5th Grade Homeroom Classes as part of our Hillside Cares Community Service Project!

During the month of October, we will be collecting brand new pairs of socks of all sizes, for all ages! Socks are one of the most valuable items to the underprivileged members of our community. New socks provide many benefits for health, warmth, and cleanliness. Let's warm their hearts and their toes by donating!

Packaged socks can be brought to Rooms 1 or 103. Our donations will be brought to Toni's Kitchen by Mrs. Bermeo's Food Science Class in November and have always been greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your support!

-Miss Brantner, Mrs. Eckardt, and Mrs. Bermeo

Consistency is key! All homeroom liaison communications must be approved by the homeroom teacher. All language regarding class parties/food must be reviewed by the school nurse prior to distribution. We appreciate the support and can’t do it without you, I just need to ensure procedures that ensure the safe of all of our students.

Students can test out their costumes before the Boogie Bash at the annual Cast of Characters Parade on Oct. 26 at 2:30pm on the field. Every year we enjoy seeing the imagination and creativity of our Hillside students as they dress up like their favorite characters for a joyous parade around the Hillside field. Please send costumes to school. Absolutely no masks, (toy) weapons, and/or violent images will be allowed. Families should go directly to ST. LUKES PLACE for viewing.

We are thrilled to announce the re-launch of the Hillside PTA Website! THE goal was simple: provide a one-stop source for all things Hillside Elementary school! Become a PTA member. Check. Want to sign up to volunteer? Boom. Need more Spirit Wear? Buy now. Special thanks to our Webmaster and 3rd grade parent, Joby Abragan! As always, if you have questions, comments or suggestions contact the PTA Executive Board at info@hillsidepta.org

Check out the new website today: www.hillsidepta.org.

We are ready to kick off planning of our 2019 Fireball fundraiser! The adult-only event, which takes places every three years, is a joint effort between Hillside and Nishuane, and helps to fund major projects in both schools. We need of volunteers to help with sponsor sales, donation requests, event coordination, silent auction project coordination and much, much more! If you are interested in being a part of this incredible event, email ptapres@hillside.org

We encourage all parents to join the Hillside PTA. The PTA’s goal is to support and advocate on behalf of the students in school and in the community. PTA dues go directly to making Hillside better for everyone in big and small ways. The cost of a single membership is $12 and a family membership is $20. Click on the “Join the PTA” link on the Hillside PTA website: www.hillsidepta.org.

If you are an organized communicator this role is perfect for you! The PTA Volunteer Coordinator works closely with the PTA president to keep track of parents who have offered to help out with PTA initiatives. You will help recruit volunteers, connect them with the right people to get started, suggest committees where they can help or lead, and support communication amongst volunteers. If you are interested, please contact ptapres@hillsidepta.org for more information.
