Hello Hillside! What a fantastic production of Seussical last week directed by Mrs. Willis! Congratulations to everyone who participated, you make us proud to be part of Hillside. There were 78 students who took the stage, with 10 student crew members working behind the scenes. They were supported by MSU orchestra members, Hillside teaching staff, and countless parent volunteers. Shout outs to the production team: Mrs. Ariana Smeriglio (Dance), Mr. Park (Music/Chorus), and Mrs. Wills (Drama).

While there is still some snow on the ground, a reminder that Spring Break starts next week. Schools are closed Thursday, March 29 and Friday, March 30 and will remain closed until Monday, April 9. Read below to learn about a day of service planned for Friday, March 30.

CYCLE 3 STARTS THIS WEEK

Schedules are now available in Genesis – Parent Access. Students received their schedules when they arrived at their Homeroom Monday morning. Parents can submit an add/drop request beginningThursday, March 22ndand ending onSunday, March 25th. The first week will be reserved for gross scheduling errors, like a missing class.

PTA MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY MARCH 21st 7 pm

Join us for this week’s PTA meeting as we prepare for the inaugural Science Day and all the upcoming spring activities. Additionally, Jennifer Goforth, Director of K-12 STEM for Montclair Public Schools, Department of Equity, Curriculum and Instruction, will be joining us to share information about middle school math placement. For Fifth grade families, a letter was sent from the District via email on March 2. She can also answer any questions about the Middle School math curriculum. PTA Meeting will be held in the Literacy Center – Room 205.

SCIENCE DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

This year, instead of the Science Fair, we are holding Science Day! It's an exciting and interactive way to expose our children to science! We need parents to assist in the classrooms and throughout the school with hands on activities. We also need volunteers to assist our visiting speakers and panelists for the day. SAVE THE DATE – DAY OF SERVICE FRIDAY, MARCH 30

In celebration of the spring season, Hillside has organized a day of service to give back to our community on Friday, March 30. We have set up several volunteer opportunities for you and your family. A sign-up link will be posted on March 26th. Please contact Sarah Jacobstein with any questions.

COMING SOON: SPRING EXPLORERS

Spring Explorers starts the week of April 23 and runs for six weeks. Our catalog with will be available online and paper copies sent home before spring break so keep a lookout. And mark your calendars: registration will open Tuesday, April 10th.

SPEAKING OF SPRING…PLANNING UNDERWAY FOR FIFTH GRADE PICNIC

In keeping with the annual tradition, there is a celebratory picnic for fifth grade students in June and we need your help planning so we can send our kids into the future in proper Hillside style! We're looking for help with planning and volunteers to be there on the day of the picnic. Event is Friday June 15th at 11 am with a rain date of Monday June 19. Sign up here.
