PTA AND EXECUTIVE BOARD OPENINGS – LOOK FOR YOUR BALLOT WE SENT HOME

We need your help for the 2018-2019 school year. The purpose of the PTA is to unite our community through sponsoring family events, supporting school needs and upgrades including teacher stipends, offering educational information sessions, and communication. Next year is a FIREBALL year, which is a big benefit to raise community and funds for the school. Identifying community goals and providing focus for this project is instrumental for Hillside. Please feel free to nominate yourself or another person you may think is a great fit for the job! Exec Board positions available include President, Vice President and Secretary. Additionally, some of our biggest committees are listed on this form as well.

NISHUANE TRANSITION PICNIC THIS THURSDAY – VOLUNTEER HERE

Each year, the Hillside Community hosts a picnic for rising 3rd graders. The picnic is an opportunity for Nishuane families to meet and talk with Hillside students and parents and enjoy a casual evening on the field. Volunteers are needed for set up and breakdown of food and beverages and to answer questions and give a warm welcome. Please sign up here.

FIELD DAY IS FRIDAY, JUNE 1 AND WE NEED YOUR HELP

Calling all volunteers! Please help Mrs. Lever organize another fantastic Field Day for all students. It’s a day for friendly competition and active play so please lend a hand as many are needed. Spots are open throughout the day so check out the sign up and volunteer here.

‘RED NOSE DAY’ SUPPORT TO FIGHT CHILD POVERTY

Hillside is supporting ‘Red Nose’ Day on May 24, a global initiative to fight child poverty. To date, the initiative has raised $100 million and reached more than 8 million children through various organizations and programs. One of the charities we can help is the Covenant House, a network of shelters for homeless youth, which has a shelter in our community. Additionally, funds will be donated to the Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs of America, Feeding America, and several other organizations that help those who are living in poverty.

Our Red Nose Day project kicked off May 9. Keep your eyes peeled for art going up at Hillside. We’ll be raising awareness and funds through Red Nose Day on May 24th when students and teachers are asked to wear red. Red noses will be available for sale on May 23rd and 24th and students can wear them on May 24th in school.

TIME TO TOAST OUR TEACHERS – MESSAGE FROM THE MFEE

It's time to Toast our Teachers while raising critical funds to support teacher grants that fuel classroom innovation. At Hillside, your Toast donations fund everything from boosting the revamped Science Day, alternative seating like standing desks that increase student focus, and additional resources to support the arts. MFEE Toasts are family-hosted parties that take place from the end of May to the end of June every school year. Honor a Teacher Today.

SUPERINTENDENT LISTENING SESSION MAY 29 – GLENFIELD LIBRARY, 7 – 8:30 PM

Newly-appointed Superintendent Johnson is holding her second “Listening and Learning” Session on May 29 from 7 to 8:30 pm in the Glenfield School Library. Questions for discussion include: What areas of existing excellence would you like enhanced? What are your hopes/dreams for the district? Specifically, what do you envision the district should do better to serve our students? What internal and/or external partnerships would you like to see further developed as we strive to better serve our students?
