LET’S WALK & ROLL TO HILLSIDE

Grab your sneakers, your bike + chain and a friend. Hillside School will host Bike/Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 12. It’s a great chance to encourage kids to be more active and promote the benefits of creating more safe routes to schools.

We’ll meet up at 8:20 a.m. at Whole Foods or Porter Park and head to the Hillside front lawn.

A few volunteers are needed to make the event a success.  Sign up to be a bike/walk captain or help with the snack table here.

GET READY TO BOOGIE

Are you ready to have a spooky-good time? Mark your calendars for the return of Hillside's Boogie Bash, Friday Oct. 28 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Here’s all you need to know about this epic

annual school event.

What is it? Boogie Bash is a fundraiser with a haunted hallway, dance party, games, costume

contest, and food for sale. For years, it was a highly popular annual Hillside event with a strong

history, with the last estimated attendance around 400 people.

Where is it? Boogie Bash takes place on the ground floor of Hillside School. Enter and be prepared for tricks and treats.

How do I get in? Tickets will soon be available for pre-purchase. A limited number of tickets will

be available at the door.

Who can attend? This party is designed for Hillside 3rd-5th graders and may be scary for some children. Please use your discretion in determining whether this party is appropriate for your child. Please note this is NOT a drop off event. Grownups must stay.

How can I help? We need a ton of help. Look for a SignUp Genius for volunteers needed the day of the event.

What’s next? Stay tuned for further communication via your child’s school folder, this email blast, WhatsApp chats, and the Hillside page on Facebook. Email [email protected] with

Questions.

Message from Ms. Scott (School Counselor)

Hello Hillside Families!!!! It’s been wonderful getting into classrooms to do my first lesson of the year with the children. This month we learned about Growth Mindset (aka Flexible Thinking). The children did a wonderful job of creating concept maps for 7 keywords associated with Growth Mindset- risks, mistakes, courage, creativity, persistence, effort, and success. The concept maps are now hanging in each of the classrooms as a reminder of how to move forward when our minds get stuck. Here is a Growth Mindset Parent Page  in case you’d like to continue practicing flexible thinking at home.

As always, I am here to support our Hillside families in any way I can. Here are the links to the In Need of Counselingand Counseling Consent Form to use if you believe your child could use my help, individually or in a small group.  I can also be reached via email ([email protected]) or phone (973.509.4200 x14811). Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns about your child’s social-emotional well being. Have a great weekend! ðŸ˜Š
