PICTURE DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Hillside Picture Day - Volunteers Needed: Thursday, October 10 is Hillside Picture Day in the auditorium and we need parent volunteers to help with the class logistics to make sure picture day go smoothly. Picture Day runs all day (9:30 am - 3:15pm), so we will offer 2-hour time slots for volunteering.

This is another great way to meet teachers, staff and your child's classmates! Please sign up if you can help out! 

HOSPITALITY SHOUT OUTS
A big thank you to Benedicta Otalor, the PTA Hospitality Chair, for organizing the Welcome Back Breakfast and the Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon and to the parent volunteers that helped make the luncheon a huge success: Stacy Ury, Erin Walter, LaNa Jones-Jules, Deirdre Birmingham, Trente Miller, Karen Andes, Jimena Santos, Tiffany Tang-Loncar, Erica Ajayi, and Nicole Chalfoun.

WALK/BIKE TO SCHOOL SHOUT OUTS
Thank you to all the students, families, school leaders and community officials for participating in our Walk/Bike to School day. This year’s event reinforced the importance of walking and biking safety for the entire community, starting with our trip to Hillside school.

A special shout out to:
· Pomptonian Food Service for their generous fruit and water donation
· Ms. Sona Yeghiazaryan for creating our awesome “We Walked/Biked to School” poster
· Ms. Trisha Kelly for leading us in our Zumba class on the lawn
· Montclair Police & Fire Departments for ensuring the safety of our walkers & bikers
· Erica Ajayi, Erica Clark-Mitchell, Kimya Nilsen, Bella Veksler and the parent volunteers form making this event possible.

HILLSIDE LAUNCHES 1ST ANNUAL APPEAL CAMPAIGN
This year as part of our fundraising efforts we are launching our 1st Annual Appeal Campaign.
The annual appeal dollars will go directly to the school and will have a great impact on what we can do this year. No contribution is too small and every donation is greatly needed and appreciated. Please fill out the form in the attached letter or you can also contribute online here. All contributions are confidential and will only be seen by the PTA Treasurer. The Hillside PTA is a non-profit organization so all donations are tax deductible and may be eligible for corporate matching programs.

CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSETS! FALL SWAP IS OCT 5th
The Free Community-Wide Montclair Swap is coming up on October 4th and October 5th. Donations and volunteers are always needed. Donations can be dropped off at the Hillside School gym at 54 Orange Road, Montclair, from 4:30-6:30 on Friday, October 4th. Items can be taken on Saturday, October 5th, from 9-11. CORNHOLE/KICKBALL CLASSIC SUNDAY OCT 6TH CANCELLED
The cornhole/kickball event this Sunday (October 6th) has been CANCELLED. It is a busy time so perhaps we will try for later in the year. Stay tuned.

COAT DRIVE KICKS OFF OCT 15th
As you ready your family’s cold-weather wardrobe, please consider donating to Hillside’s collection for the Jersey Cares Coat Drive. Drop your CLEAN and GENTLY-USED infant, kids and adult WINTER coats in designated school collection bins October 15 - November 22. Questions, or if you need to donate sooner, please contact Trente Miller at trentem@icloud.com.

Special shout-out to our 3rd grade families: We need a couple volunteers to help + learn so you can co-manage this effort next year. Contact Trente if you have a few hours to help!

SPIRIT WEAR FREE SHIPPING WEEK OCT 1-13
It’s that time of year again to get your Hillside swag on! Hillside Spirit Wear can be purchased anytime, anywhere at our online store and this week Oct 1-13th is FREE SHIPPING WEEK. All products will be shipped directly to the school the first week of November.

HILLSIDE PANERA FUNDRAISER OCT 18th
Give yourself a night off from cooking and take your family to Panera at 15 Bloomfield Avenue on Friday, October 18, from 4pm until 8pm. Bring the Hillside Panera flyer and a proceeds of all sales will go to the Hillside PTA!

SCIENCE DAY FIRST PLANNING MEETING
Would you like to take part in our 3rd annual Hillside Science Day this Spring?  Science Day is an all-day event during the school day with STEM related activities, speakers and learning opportunities. The Science Day Team is already making plans for another successful event! If you are interested in hearing about volunteer opportunities and lead roles, please attend our meeting on Wednesday, October 16th at 10:10-10:50 am in Ms. Bartol's classroom, Room 206. ANNUAL BOOGIE BASH OCT 25th
Join us for a night of spooktacular fun at the annual Boogie Bash Oct 25th 7-9pm. Hillside’s most popular event includes a live DJ, dancing, costume contest, games, prizes, Haunted Hallway, food, drinks and treats. Volunteer sign up and ticket information coming soon.

WEEK OF RESPECT
Respect Week begins on Monday!!! Our activities for the week are as follows:

• Monday, October 7 - Kickoff Respect Week by wearing neon to highlight respect.
• Tuesday, October 8 - Show that everyone counts by wearing a jersey or shirt that has a number on it.
• Wednesday, October 9 - SCHOOL CLOSED
• Thursday, October 10 - “Sock it to Bullying” by wearing crazy socks.
• Friday, October 11 - "Hillside Pride" Day – wear Hillside gear or blue.

Little Brother to Brother, a community based program offered to all males in grades 4 & 5, is currently in place at Hillside. The first meeting for Little Brother to Brother at Hillside be Monday, October 14th. This is a wonderful program for our little guys to get involved in.
