Letter to Our Families

Dear Parents/Caregivers:

Hillside Elementary is a vibrant and joyful place where learning, creativity, and community come together every day. Our students thrive because of the incredible partnership among our dedicated staff, supportive families, and the wider community that believes in the promise of every child. Together, we are building a school where all children feel safe, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.

My educational philosophy remains centered on educating the whole child. At Hillside, we offer an engaging and rigorous curriculum while also nurturing healthy living, social emotional growth, and artistic expression. Through collaboration among teachers, parents, support staff, and students, we create a positive school culture that celebrates learning and ensures every student has the opportunity to succeed.

We do not just talk about equity, we live it. Every child at Hillside deserves meaningful conversations, careful planning, and intentional support that honors their unique strengths and needs. Our commitment to equity means creating a learning environment that is inclusive, anti racist, and welcoming for all. We strive to make sure each student feels a true sense of belonging and pride in who they are, while also learning to appreciate and respect the diversity of others.

We believe that all students can learn and grow when given the right systems, opportunities, and encouragement. At Hillside, students are engaged in meaningful learning experiences across literacy, mathematics, the sciences, the arts, and physical education. They are encouraged to think critically, express their ideas, explore their talents, and discover new passions. We see ourselves as a community of learners and a community of leaders, and every child is an important part of that vision.

Parents and caregivers play an essential role in this journey. Please partner with us by ensuring your child attends school every day, arrives on time, completes assignments, and comes ready to learn. At home, encourage your child to share their school experiences with you, and make daily reading a family habit. Your support helps strengthen the bridge between school and home, allowing us to better serve your child.

We invite you to join us for our Back to School Night (BTSN) on Wednesday, October 8 at 6:00 p.m. This event will give you the opportunity to hear about instructional priorities, learn how you can support your child’s growth, and connect with your child’s teachers.

On behalf of the entire Hillside staff, I warmly welcome you to the 2025 2026 school year. We are excited to begin this journey together and look forward to celebrating the many achievements of our students. Hillside truly is a special place, one filled with joy, excellence, and community.

Here is to a wonderful year ahead!

Educationally yours,
Edwyn Acevedo
Principal
