The Montclair Public Schools Summary of State and District Testing for 2022-2023 (Spanish version) provides a high-level overview of standardized assessments and other assessments given to students in our district. Specific testing dates of state assessment administration may vary by school and parents/guardians will be notified once scheduled. Please contact your child's counselor should you have any questions or concerns about your child's performance on district and/or state assessments.
NJDOE graduation assessment requirement update (July 2022):
- There is no graduation assessment requirement for any student who is expected to graduate with the Class of 2023
- Class of 2024-2025 graduation requirements remain

Start Strong:
- State formative assessment administered to ELA: Grades 4-10, Math: Grades 4-8, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 & Science: Grades 6, 9 and 12
- Testing Window: September 1-October 21, 2022
New Jersey State Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJSGPA):
- State assessment for graduation administered to Grade 11 students
- Testing window: March 13-17, 2023
New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA):
- English Language Arts (ELA): Grades 3-9
- Math: Grades 3-9, including Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2
- Science: Grade 5,8 & 11
- Testing window: May 1-26, 2023
ACCESS 2.0 for English Language Learners:
- For K-12 students who have English as a secondary language
Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM):
- An alternative assessment for students in grades 3-9 with significant intellectual disabilities in ELA and Math

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT):
- An assessment given to all 10th and 11th grade students
District Algebra Placement Test:
- An alternate computer-based assessment for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities in grades 3-8 and high school
- English Language Arts (ELA)/Math: Grades 3,4,6,7
- English Language Arts (ELA)/Math/Science: Grades 5,8,11

- Math, ELA and Early Literacy diagnostic and benchmark assessments

Accuplacer - An optional college placement test for seniors
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery assessment (ASVAB) - An optional assessment for seniors
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) - An optional college placement test for seniors
American College Test (ACT) - An optional college placement test for seniors
Avant STAMP Testing - An assessment administered to all 8th grade students to measure individual proficiency in the domains of reading, writing, listening, and speaking in a target language
